Fully committed to God
Don’t you remember what happened to the Ethiopians and Libyans and their vast army, with all of their chariots and charioteers? At that time you relied on the Lord, and he handed them over to you. The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war. 2 Chronicles 16:8-9 Life is always full of challenges. God’s desire is that you remain steadfast and faithful to Him as you face these challenges. God’s promise is that once you are focused on Him and the desire of your heart is to remain fully committed to Him, His eyes are on you. This is what God was telling King Asa through prophet Hanani, which at first he did. But later on King Asa started to lose sight of God and started to form an alliance with godless people and had Hanani imprisoned. King Asa experienced defeat after defeat even in small wars that he could have won only if he trusted God. As you face your own challenges in life, you don’t have to doubt if God is with you if you know that your dependence is upon Him. This is what King Asa experienced when he was confronted with the intimidating Ethiopian army and he relied on God to help him achieve victory (2 Chron. 14:9). But after this great victory, his faith in God faltered. He preferred to trust the army of godless people because he perceived that having them on his side will make him victorious. Like King Asa, the tendency is to forget the faithfulness of God in the past and to start to rely when perceived that there is something more reliable than God. In times that you feel overwhelmed by the challenges do you trust others than you trust God? Do you feel that you have to give up what you know about the God whom you relied and trusted in the past? Don’t give in to the temptation to trust others rather than trusting God. Don’t just give up on what you believe about God and keep your heart loyal to Him. All God wants from you is that you remain committed to Him and He will demonstrate His strength in your life. “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31) God is always there to provide you the victory in your present circumstance as He was with those you faced in the past. So when you seek Him with all your heart, you will discover that His eyes are on you. “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you” (Psalm 37:9).
Blessings.
