Your act of worship
Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness. You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. 1 Peter 2:2-5
Individual or in corporate gathering, believers are called to offer spiritual sacrifices. No longer to offer animal sacrifices as in the Old Testament, but spiritual sacrifices offered to God through Jesus Christ. The ability to take such action is due to what Christ accomplished on the cross. You offer spiritual sacrifice when you come to God in prayer. This is not only to bring your own petition to God but to intercede for others. By offering your finances and talents are also expressions of spiritual sacrifices. The act of sacrificial giving let God knows of your willingness to trust and be dependent on Him that He will provide. Generous act of giving becomes a “sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God” (Philippians 4:18). Giving praise to God that comes from a sincere heart is an expression of spiritual sacrifice. “Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name” (Hebrews 13:15). You are saved by grace yet your relationship with God should be expressed by your service to others. You are not serving in order to be saved but your service shows that you are already saved. Remember that you are saved by faith through the demonstration of God’s mercy and grace on the cross then you realize that once you know Christ as Lord and Savior, you are called to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). All these acts of spiritual sacrifices are due to your willingness to give yourself to God. What a privilege and an opportunity to offer oneself before God as a living sacrifice. This becomes your reasonable, holy and acceptable service to God (Romans 12:1). When you offer your spiritual sacrifices to God, you are demonstrating how grateful you are to the sacrifice Christ did for you to obtain your salvation.
Blessings.
