Hearing the voice of the Lord
The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord splits the mighty cedars; the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon’s mountains skip like a calf; he makes Mount Hermon leap like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord strikes with bolts of lightning. The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists mighty oaks and strips the forests bare. In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!”" Psalm 29:4-9 The psalmist declared that “the voice of the Lord is powerful.” Seven times, the Psalmist used the phrase in Psalm 29 and he began to use the phrase referring to the judgment of God through the flood during the time of Noah. “The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders over the mighty sea” (v. 3). There were other times that the phrase was used describing varying activities of God. While in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve always heard the voice of the Lord. God wants them to only listen to Him and that they will not give attention to other voices. Yet, they did not listen to the voice of God that they gave in to Satan and convinced themselves that they are not violating the voice of God. So they gave in to temptation and after they sinned, they hid from God. Then once again they heard from God. “They heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:8-9). And as Adam and Eve realized, they should have listened to the voice of God. Same is also true to those who claimed they are children of God. If you want your life to be fruitful and fulfilled, you have to decide that you will listen to the voice of God and not to the voice of men. Instead of hiding from God, be open to the voice of God and listen. Once you obey you will discover the life He wants you to have, no longer alienated from Him because of sin, but hearing His voice speaking of the glory He prepared for those that trusted Him. “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God” (Revelation 21:3, NIV). Hear His voice now and listen to His Word. “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life” (John 5:24).
Blessings.
