Whom God loves, He disciplines

My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding. Proverbs 3:11-13, NIV

Parents who seek to discipline their children do not find pleasure to see them get hurt during the punishment because of disobedience. Yet, they find that disciplining their child will be beneficial for their sake. This is also true to the heavenly Father. He disciplines His children for the purpose of making them the person God wants them to be. Though He does not find pleasure in doing so, but not to discipline will lead to more destruction. God has a plan of growing you for your benefit and so you could reflect Him in your Christian life. To achieve His purposes will mean that He will do everything so that He could bring you more closely to Him and to the path of holiness. Your spiritual journey includes following Christ’s example. If you are a Christian parent, your priority is to raise up your child to have a healthy fear of God. You want him to learn how to obey God’s command of learning how to honor his parents. And when he is not growing in obedience and will not honor those in authority, it is appropriate that he will be disciplined. “Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you” (Deuteronomy 8:5). It is because of your love to your child that you will not withhold disciplining him. This is true as well with God. “Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty” (Job 5:17). God will not allow you to drift away from Him because you chose to do so. He loves you enough to help you realize of your need of Him. If discipline is needed, do not resist instead learn the lesson He wants you to learn. Come to Him and ask for forgiveness and receive the restoration He alone could provide. So if you noticed that you are starting to rebel against God and you claim that you are His child, do not wait for Him to discipline you. Go back to Him and set yourself following the life He wants you to have.

Blessings,
