Keeping your focus on God

Two of the men who had explored the land, Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, tore their clothing. They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” Numbers 14:6-9

There are so many things that can distract a child of God from focusing on Him. With the advancement in technology, one could easily be distracted with electronic gadgets that constantly call the attention with new information. These include the computer and other technologies that people feel could not function well without them. Then, there are daily chores that needed to attend to and the circumstances that constantly provide difficult challenges. All these could easily bring Christians to lose sight of what God has for them. From the text, Joshua and Caleb told the Israelites that no matter what they are about to encounter as they enter the Promised Land, they should focus on God. They told them that God already showed how faithful He was providing for them when they left Egypt and while wandering in the wilderness. Joshua and Caleb challenged the Israelites not to turn their backs on God but to remain focused on Him. This is the same challenge every believer confronts. With so many things going on in one’s life, it is easy to lose sight of what God wants. Do not neglect spending time with Him regularly so you will gain wisdom. There are so many voices around that offer differing views and the wisdom that comes from the Word of God will provide a filter to help you sift through with what you hear. Always remember that He has a wonderful plan for your life. His plan for you will not be frustrated no matter what circumstances you will be facing. God will keep His promises. This is what Joshua and Caleb were reminding the Israelites. Later on, those who believed and followed God experienced the blessing of God’s faithfulness by fulfilling His promises. So keep your focus on Him. Make Him your priority in everything you do. “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33).

Blessings.
