Getting back to you first love

I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for me without quitting. “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Revelation 2:2-4 God is faithful and He never changes. Even when we experience moments where we feel that our love for Him is weakening, God’s love remains steadfast. God will always remain faithful to His covenant to those that placed their lives in His hand. After the church was started in Ephesus, the believers were just full of vigor in their love for God. But they started to compromise their faith when they allowed their godly principles be tainted with worldly desires. This is why God called them to get back to their first love and stop compromising their faith. This is also what happened in the Old Testament in Jeremiah 2 where the people of God are starting to drift from their faith. God recalled the time when they were just so passionate about their love to God expressed in their devotion and service. He compared their love to God with the love of the groom to the bride early in their marriage. Relationship was just filled with excitement and eagerness as they planned out their future. “I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago, how you loved me and followed me even through the barren wilderness” (Jeremiah 2:2). They were close to God when they were focused in their commitment to love Him with all their hearts. We could also grow cold in our love for God when we become careless and oblivious to the enemy’s spiritual attack. We have to guard our heart and prevent ourselves to get out of focus and let the things of the world take the prominent place of God in our hearts. So when you notice that there is a sense of apathy and weariness creeping in regarding spiritual matters, it will be good to start recalling moments of closeness with God. Try to recall what brought about joy in your relationship with God. Having regular times of recollecting spiritual life and energy will help you prevent drifting away from your love of God. Engage yourself in activities that will help you get focused on your relationship with God. “Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him” (Philippians 2:12-13).

Blessings,
