Trusting Him with all our cares
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
There is a great chance that by now you have realized that becoming a Christian does not shield you from experiencing trials in life. In fact, all the more you become aware of the reality of facing trials but what is different is that now that you are a believer in Christ, you have someone to whom you can come with all your cares in life. This is what the Apostle Peter was telling the believers in Asia Minor. He encouraged them to choose to trust all their concerns to God. Christians during that time were becoming disillusioned as to the presence of trials in life. They were overwhelmed by the persecutions just because they had placed their life in Christ. Their decision to surrender their lives to God resulted in being forsaken by their families and friends. Most of them lost their jobs. They do not know who to turn to during their crisis. When Jesus was still here on earth, Peter experienced the loving presence of God. He knew that every time the disciples faced challenges in life, God was there to walk with them and strengthen them in their faith to Him. Peter knew that no matter how difficult the trials were, God was always in control. This is why he admonished them to choose to trust the mighty power of God working in them and to give to Him all their worries and cares. The same admonition is given by God to each and every one of us. He calls us to make a choice and be deliberate in trusting Him with all the things that cause us to be anxious. God knows that this is difficult for us to do for we would rather depend on our own strength and abilities. We would rather be self-reliant than becoming dependent on someone. But God knows that if we will not learn how to come to Him with all our worries and cares, we will not experience peace that is brought upon by being freed from the weight of our problems. Choose to surrender them into the mighty hands of God. No matter how big or small our worries are, He tells us to trust Him with every trial we face. Do not assume that just because you feel your problem is too small and too easy for you to solve, think again for you might discover later on you really can’t. By the time you surrendered your life to Christ to be your Lord and Savior He does not just want to provide you a secured future with Him in eternity. He wants you also to realize that now as you wait for His glorious return you can surrender your burdens to Him for He is there to help you. “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation” (1 Peter 5:10).
