Overcoming doubts with His wisdom

For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:3-8

It is easier to express one’s faith when it pertains to believing that God is going to do something in the future. But if it is about trusting God’s provision to the things that are immediate, more likely than not, there will be hesitations in expressing faith. Yet faith should be part of our day-to-day life. It should be practiced regularly if we hope to grow in our relationship with God. There are certain characteristics that gets develop only when we persevere when our faith is tested. From our text, James tells us that our faith should not be tentative. It cannot be like the waves of the sea that continues to move due to the wind blowing in different directions. One day we are so committed to following and serving God then folds up the next day in the face of a difficult challenge. God uses trials so He could remove the flaws in our immature faith. We persevere in the midst of trials when there is staying power within that comes from trusting God. It is not just feeling bad or remorseful because we are going through difficulties but we know that we are strong because God is working through us. Once our faith gets developed, godly characters continued to be formed within until we realize that even in times of trials we can count them as pure joy. Do not be overcome with doubts but instead pray for wisdom. Continue to trust God and believe that He is always in control. Growing in wisdom takes place when you wholeheartedly love the ways of God. Look beyond your circumstances and make the first step toward following God’s direction and His will. If you exercise your faith regularly not just in imminent matters but also to the ones that seemed to be trivial, those seas of doubts cannot rage so ferociously.
