God’s loving-presence

Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord. Psalm 32:6-10

Difficulties in life bring about disbelief and doubts. These emotions affect our ability to think. From our text, King David expressed his sense of security in the presence of God. He was a recipient of God’s unfailing love and forgiveness though he knew he did not deserve them. Yet God in His mercy cleansed him from his sin. Now he was calling out others to come to God in times of distress. God provides us promises to help us find our way through trials. He promises that He will provide us the “best pathway in life.” He will give us understanding into our condition since He can see ahead of us and knows all things. He knows what steps we are to take. But realize that there will be times that what He prescribes and provides as answers to our problems might not be what we anticipate. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). There are instances that instead of taking revenge when people hurt us badly, God’s command is to let the Lord deal with the matter and He expects us to live peaceably with others (see Romans 12:17-19). God also wants us to grow in applying His Word as we deal with difficulties in life. His Spirit will teach us how to live our lives holding on to the promises found in the Scriptures (John 16:13-15). God also promises to watch over us. “I will advise you and watch over you.” Just like a loving parent that quietly guides his child, in a similar way, God will surround His children with His unfailing love. He promises those who will follow Him His watchful presence but He is asking them as well to not get senseless and be stubborn that they will not submit to His working. He wants us to seek out His wisdom instead of becoming disoriented when facing difficulties in life. Come to the Lord and experience His loving presence. Follow His leading and hold on to His promises.
