God’s wisdom that lights our path
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil. Proverbs 4:23-27
There is no safer place than to be in the center of God’s will. This is what the text from Proverbs is admonishing the believers do; fix their eyes on the path God had set for their lives. “The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day” (Proverbs 4:18). God promised that if we walk in His way trusting the wisdom that He provides, the light on our path as we take on the journey with God becomes brighter. God has a wonderful plan for His children. If we rely on Him, we will grow in His wisdom. There will be times that our road will be filled with trials and difficulties but we will find the experience fulfilling because we know that He is with us and His love endures forever. “The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever” (Psalm 138:8). But in order for this to take place, we have to be responsible in yielding ourselves to His word and trust that He will provide. “Don’t forget my words or turn away from them... Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life” (Proverbs 4:5, 13). Once we choose to listen to His word and obey His instructions, we will find that we are in the right direction. But once we ignore His word or we pick and choose only those that we want to follow, we will not experience His guidance. “Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own” (John 7:17). The will of God is not for the curious; it is for those who are committed to follow Him. Do not allow the ways of the world influence you instead stay away from it as far you can. Our relationship with God through faith in Christ has brought us out from darkness. And just like what He promised, the more we obey Him and listen to His guidance all the more the path we take gets brighter and brighter. Not only that we are blessed but also those around us see the goodness of God working in us. “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9). Do not let go of God’s instructions in life instead let them change our minds so we could do what pleases Him.
