Called to be faithful
During all this time you have not deserted the other tribes. You have been careful to obey the commands of the Lord your God right up to the present day. And now the Lord your God has given the other tribes rest, as he promised them. So go back home to the land that Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave you as your possession on the east side of the Jordan River. But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.” So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went home. Joshua 22:3-6
From the text, Joshua reminded the Israelites of their responsibility to be faithful to their calling. Those who know God and have trusted Him should obey God’s commands. God does not need our help in order for Him to accomplish His will. Yet, He granted us the opportunity and the privilege to serve Him. His call is for us not to doubt Him. Doubt comes, placed by the Tempter Satan himself but also because of the lack of knowledge of who God is. There is a lack of growth in the life of the believer and this leads to a lack of understanding of His will. Doubts and lack of trust to God will be overcome only if we grow deeper in our relationship with God. “You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:17-18). Doubts should not be allowed to embitter us towards God which could progress into unbelief. Though He granted us eternal life and we have been given the right standing before Him because we have received Him as our Lord and Savior, we should not neglect that we are called to strive to live loving Him. This is shown in our sweet relationship with Him through obedience and pursuit of holiness. Remain steadfast for there will come a time when belief is complete; when your faith passes into sight. “But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News” (Colossians 1:23).
