The joy of serving God

During all this time you have not deserted the other tribes. You have been careful to obey the commands of the Lord your God right up to the present day. And now the Lord your God has given the other tribes rest, as he promised them. So go back home to the land that Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave you as your possession on the east side of the Jordan River. But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul. Joshua 22:3-5

Our Lord Jesus Christ had set an example for every believer as to what it meant to be a servant of God. He did not seek to do His own activity without the Father leading Him. “So Jesus explained, ‘I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does’ ” (John 5:19). A faithful follower of God never sets the agenda instead he finds where God is at work and then joins Him. Joshua from the text, reminded the people of God of their responsibility to be faithful. While God does not need the help every believer could provide but what He does is that He grants them the opportunity to serve Him. When you came to know Christ as your Lord and Savior you were granted a standing that not only mattered while here on this earth but will last for eternity. Knowing that you have this kind of privilege, it is understandable if you will strive to love Him by being obedient to His word and to His will for your life. There are times that doubts come driven by the Tempter himself nudging you that what you are doing do not amount to anything. Instead of listening to him, why don’t you continue to grow deeper in His word and eventually overcome your doubts with your love of God? God promised that one day your faith will be made complete (Rev. 21:3-5). For now, learn to view events around you from His perspective. Adjust your life to His will for you and just like what Joshua said, “Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul” (Joshua 22:5). When your eyes are opened to His working and you’re sensitive to His leading, you will begin to marvel at what He is doing and inexpressible joy will be yours.

Blessings.
