God’s word guarding your heart

How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you—don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. Psalms 119:9-12

When temptations come, it is important that you know who you belong to. God promised those who trust Him a way of escape when temptation comes. “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure” (1 Corinthians 10:13). It is by knowing God’s word that will help the child of God stand against temptations. From the text, this is what the Psalmist discovered. It is by having the word of God in one’s heart that will keep a believer from falling into sinful living. Jesus Christ when He was before Satan to be tempted demonstrated how important it is to know the Word of God. In Matthew 4, He used the Scripture to deflect Satan’s deceptions and lies. Satan tried to negotiate with Jesus but Jesus did not give in and rationalize instead He stood His ground and used the Word of God to defeat Satan’s lies. “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” Then the devil went away” (Matthew 4:10-11). It is important that you follow Jesus’ examples when you are faced with temptations. Once you ignore the word of God, you will start to justify giving in to temptation. You will also find yourself trusting your own strength to defeat Satan. It is by meditating on His word and letting it bring convictions to your heart that you can stand against temptations. Once you let His word transform your mind, you will find it easier to respond quickly to Satan’s temptations.

Blessings.
