Holding on to God
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Psalm 37:4-7
It is easy to say that you have faith in God and that you trust Him when things are working well in your life. It is during times of darkness that you start to consider God’s goodness. This is what the Psalmist from the text was urging the Israelites do as they were going through difficult times. All the more that you need to trust God in times of despair and in those trying moments that you anchor your life to Him. Trust that God knows what you are going through and let Him be the all-loving, all-powerful, and all-knowing Father that you can count on. Accept the fact that He alone is the One that you can trust during times of trials. You may seem to be puzzled why God lets you face those difficult challenges in life. But it will be during those trying moments that you can grow in your faith in Him. He wants you to continue to learn how to trust Him and times of trials are His ways for you to learn and to grow. Instead of blaming Him for His seeming distant from you during times of difficulties, be rest assured that He is there by your side and He cares. God knows what is best for you and that He already had set His plans for your life even at the beginning. This is what prophet Jeremiah told the Israelites when they went through great trials under the Babylonian captivity and assured them that God knows. ““For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen”” (Jeremiah 29:11-12). Despite Job’s loss of everything that mattered to him in his life, he still blessed the Lord. “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!” (Job 1:21). The moment you placed your life in His hand when you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, His eyes are on you. He offers all the resources you need so you will remain strong and steadfast anticipating that it will not always be darkness for the sun rises each day. “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
