Godly wisdom
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like the trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do…For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:1-3, 6 The Psalmist from the text expressed his delight in knowing that one can gain wisdom from God’s word. Wisdom is gained not just by knowing His word but applying the truth of His word in our daily lives. You can spend your whole life memorizing and studying God’s word but unless you experience the truth of it in your life, you won’t get the benefit He wants you to have. There will always be a temptation to revert back from your old life where you would rather seek ungodly counsel than pursuing the direction He wants you to take. If you seek out counsel from those who do not want their lives be influenced by God, you will miss out on His wonderful plan for your life. From His word, we read about how God gives His children the assurance that his presence will always be with us. He tells us that since he is the One who created and formed us it follows that He did this for a purpose. As God told Jacob, He also tells us that He is the one who redeems us and provides us the protection so we could live our life following His will. “But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” (Isaiah 43:1-2). Ungodly counsel can lead you to pessimism. You will be driven by popular opinion and not by the truth that comes from God’s word. It is the truth of God’s word that will help you discern what should be believed in and not just to follow what the world says. When you read God’s word be open to His leading through the Holy Spirit for He is there to help you understand His word. “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth” (John16:13). With so much confusion going on in the world around us, all the more we need to hear from His word to help us make decisions that honors God. Experience the fruit of growing in your relationship with God because you let His word be a part of your daily living. The fruit that God produces in your life does not only benefit you but also those around you. They can gain encouragement from you for you can provide them godly counsel.
Blessings,
