Trusting His promises
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7
To live in God’s will is more than just receiving specific directions in life. It is learning how to know His promises and trust Him that He will fulfill His promises. “It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8). Abraham trusted God and he believed that it doesn’t matter where God will lead him to go for what matters to him was God’s faithfulness. Living in the will of God is more about resting in his sovereignty than struggling with our uncertainties. From the text, all God wants from us is to acknowledge Him in every area of our life. When we do this, God will provide us wisdom for He desires to help us in making the right decisions in life. Even if at times we do not understand the reason for our sufferings yet we still can rejoice for God is at work. Living in God’s will is to overcome reliance on our abilities and learn how to be dependent on God. Usually, our concern evolves in what we are supposed to do, where are we supposed to go, or how our needs will be met. All these cannot escape the mind of our Sovereign God. He knows our concerns and all He wants from us is to lean in His understanding. It is not by knowing the answers and explanations to our cares that will provide us peace, but it is by trusting Him that will provide us peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7). God’s will for us is to know His word for in it we find His “great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4).
