A melody from a grateful heart

Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has done wonderful deeds. His right hand has won a mighty victory; his holy arm has shown his saving power! The Lord has announced his victory and has revealed his righteousness to every nation! He has remembered his promise to love and be faithful to Israel. The ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy! Psalm 98:1-5

Joy is one of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:23). When God fills our lives with His presence through the Holy Spirit, we can’t help but be thankful. The attitude of joy in our hearts is like a song to God. It is spontaneous and not just expressed during worship services. It comes from a heart with a deep conviction of God’s adequacy that in spite of circumstances, there is confidence of God’s presence to provide strength and victory. This is why Christians could still be joyful even in the midst of trials and suffering. Paul stated such conviction; “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation... I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:11-13). When God controls our life and we experience deep joy, we will not be afraid to express for the glory of God. “Be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:18-20). We make melody not just when we are in church. Once we are out of the service, dressed up for the day, driving to work, or any day of the week as long as our lives are controlled and filled by His Spirit, we will not be ashamed to express our joy. People around us will not find it difficult to live and work with for we are motivated to live our lives for His glory.

Blessings,
