Living right

Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The Lord looked and was displeased to find there was no justice. He was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So he himself stepped in to save them with his strong arm, and his justice sustained him. He put on righteousness as his body armor and placed the helmet of salvation on his head. He clothed himself with a robe of vengeance and wrapped himself in a cloak of divine passion. Isaiah 59:14-17 NLT

When we are rightly living because of our relationship with God, we will treat others justly. And when such attitude is absent among the people, there will be darkness instead of light. “So there is no justice among us, and we know nothing about right living. We look for light but find only darkness. We look for bright skies but walk in gloom” (Isaiah 59:9). The source of both justice and righteousness is God. God expects His children to be characterized by these virtues. The more they live in this manner, God promised to fill them more. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” (Matthew 5:6). Since God’s people are living following their own selfish desires, justice and righteousness are nowhere to be seen. As Isaiah said from the text, “Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked” (Isaiah 59:14b-15). The community of faith is far away from God. Once we start running away from God, we become easy prey to the devil. “Their feet run to do evil, and they rush to commit murder. They think only about sinning. Misery and destruction always follow them” (Isaiah 59:7). Because of this, God is appalled and has to intervene. God’s intervention is seen in calling people back to Him and receive the salvation He offers. It is only in the message of salvation that people will be changed. It is by His passionate love that we will be drawn to Him. Unless we turn to God, we will not live the way God wants us to live and executing justice will be impossible.

Blessings,
