The Lord is faithful

The Lord is faithful

But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. And we are confident in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we commanded you. 2 Thessalonians 3:3-4 NLT

There are people that we thought we can trust but they turned out not dependable. They can disappoint us, but we have God who is dependable for “the Lord is faithful.” Paul provided a contrast between the Lord Jesus Christ and the man of lawlessness. Now, from our text, he provided us the difference between faithless people and our faithful Lord. God has proven to us His faithfulness when He shed His blood for us so that our sin will be forgiven. Those who are against God will hurl accusations to those who follow God but God will vindicate those who follow Him. God will see to it that His purposes will not be thwarted. He made a commitment to those that belong to Him that He will protect them “and guard them [you] from the evil one.” He will strengthen them so that they will not easily give in to Satan’s deceptions. Nothing can overcome believers. Though they may face difficulties through persecutions and these could lead to martyrdom, they will still come out victorious in the end. Evil will not succeed for it has been defeated when Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead. Because of God’s working in the life of believers, they will remain faithful obeying God’s command. Their resolve to be faithful to God and submission to His power at work within guarantees triumph. Christians are actively engaged while they yield to God’s will. “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him” (Philippians 2:13). It will not just be Paul and his friends having the burden of spreading God’s word but believers as well in Thessalonica for they knew they are part of the work of the church. Our trust and dependence upon God will produce in us desires to always live our lives pleasing Him. We will respond to God’s call and will be involved in His work in expanding His kingdom while we wait for His return.

Blessings,
