Let it shine
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God…Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. Don’t participate in the things these people do. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Ephesians 5:1-2, 6-9
Every believer is called to be the reflection of God who is in heaven here on earth. When we fill our time talking about protecting our image or how to improve it and yet will not expend any effort to live out our witness before the watching family especially our children, we missed the opportunity to shine the lights in our homes. This is what the Apostle Paul is admonishing the Christians at Ephesus. Our lives should be the reflection of God’s love. We have to live out our faith before a watching world. This means to our co-workers, friends but also in the privacy of our home. The image of God that you talk about before your family becomes real when they see you reflecting Him in your life. You might be the instrument that God will use so that your family especially the children, help shape the image of God in their mind. Reflecting the image of God does not need honing special skills but a complete surrender to the leading of the Holy Spirit. “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). As with any aspect of Christian life, it will be the Holy Spirit that will provide wisdom so you could be the reflection of who Jesus is. He offers you parents, wisdom and guidance for raising your children and establishing spiritual leadership. Be mindful that there is limited time for every believer to manifest the light that comes from God. So when given an opportunity, take it and magnify Him. “Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do” (Ephesians 5:16-17).
