Living in God's will

Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. James 1:16-18

One of God’s attributes is, He is immutable. This is what James is describing from the passage. “...the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change.” This means that God will tell His followers what He wants them to do. Since God does not change, then it requires that every believer will follow Him based on His will for their lives. You should not expect to adjust His purposes to suit your own whims and selfish desires. For this reason, you are to set your life on things above that means things of God and not on the things of this earth. “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth” (Colossians 3:1-2). God’s intention for every believer is to submit to His direction for their lives. He is God and He is perfect in wisdom and knowledge and He knows what is best for your life. He wants to be involved in every aspect of your life. So when you go through trials in life, you know God is accomplishing something that will help you to be the person He wants you to be. Imperfect as you are, the tendency at times is to resist living in His will especially when you do not understand where God is leading you. If God is showing you to adjust your life to His direction, do not hesitate to follow so you will not miss out on His best for your life. When peace and the sense of lasting satisfaction become elusive from your spiritual journey, it might be because you are not following His will for your life. Do not let this prevail because no matter how much effort you exert pursuing your own personal desires, you will always lack contentment. It is only by being obedient to His will that will make it possible for you to experience what true contentment in life is all about. Trust Jesus at His word; “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Blessings.
