Intimacy with God
"Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is if some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."1 Timothy 4:7-8 Do you have strong desire to pursue godliness? As a child of God, this should be still the goal of your life. This is what the apostle Paul is urging Timothy to do. The question is how do you do this in your busy fast-paced and complicated life? How can you consistently walk with God in the midst of relentless pressures that you deal with regularly? To be godly does not happen automatically. Countless matters will put pressure to your life that will lead you to pursue other things except godliness. Paul admonished Timothy to "train for godliness." The key is to return in the practice of spiritual disciplines. You really have to be serious about your walk with God. You could be deeply involved in religious activities and still not grow in godliness. You could still grow cold in your spiritual life even if you are engaging in religious rituals. It is still coming to your "first love" to God that will help you get back to practicing spiritual disciplines. It is only by cultivating intimacy with God that you will desire to obey His will for your life. You pursue intimacy with God because you have set your hope in Him alone (1 Timothy 4:10). Blessings.
