Obedience is taking an action
Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.. James 4:13-17 How many times have you made a commitment to take some actions based on what God is leading you to do? From the text, it is never a minor thing to be led by God to take an action on what you know is His will for your life and not do it. You can make excuses for your lack of action but to God that is disobedience. Disobedience to God is sin. Do not let yourself believe that even if you have good intentions yet without actions it is still an act of disobedience. You can procrastinate or rationalize your inaction yet it will not still amount to obedience. You can even write it down or journal what you know is God’s will for your life. But if it will remain just a plan and there will be no follow through in terms of actions, then such plan as described by James is just “pretentious.” Having a desire to obey is not obedience when you keep on postponing your actions. “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?” (Luke 6:46). Even if you make a public display of your commitment, it will still not be the same with obedience if you will not step out of faith and do what God is calling you to do. It will be foolish to not obey the will of God. Life in this world is temporary and momentary. Once you learn to trust God and take actions in what you believe He is leading you to do, life will start to make more sense. Do not let your pride prevail instead be true to your commitment to Christ that when you made Him the Lord of your life, He is indeed the Lord of your life. Don’t miss out on the blessing of being in the center of God’s will because you are not willing to trust Him completely.
Blessings.
