Developing godly conscience

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Romans 12:1-3

God gave you a conscience for your benefit and protection. It is but proper to have your conscience function properly. In order for this to happen, you must be committed to take actions so you could trust the guidance and warning that your conscience is providing you. You must be committed in applying the Word of God. When you put into practice godly principles found in His word you grow stronger because you know more the heart of God and His will for your life. By praying, you take actions not just based on your feelings and emotions or what feels good but what God places in your heart. Once you grow applying His word in your life, you want to always ask God for His will for your life in prayers and you begin to discern the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is through the leading of the Spirit that you gain godly conviction that will steer your life to the path that He had set before you. You are no longer prodded by selfish desires but there is a willingness to submit these longings under His control. The Spirit will help you what needed to change and when to repent from sin. His conviction will help you to turn to God instead of continuing your acts of rebellion from God’s authority over your life. Let the will of God prevail in your life. Regularly surrender your life to Him as a “living and holy sacrifice.” Do not conform to the ways and behaviors of this world but daily renew your mind according to His ways. As you do this, you are able to know what pleases and glorifies God.

Blessings.
