Learning to wait on God

Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. Psalm 27:13-14 Waiting is difficult. Most people will try to avoid waiting. Yet this is what God wants from His children. Part of following God is to wait on Him. He is your Leader and you are called to follow in His steps. There are times that God will lead you to steep terrain towards a summit and then down in the valley. As He leads, He will take you to a path He has prepared for you. The key is not to go ahead of God but learn to follow and wait for His leading. The only way that you can be satisfied with your life is when you become used to following God. This seems to be easy enough task and sound sensible, and yet at times your lack of complete trust in God impedes your progress. Every time you insist in your own way because of pride, it takes you away from following Him. From the text, the Psalmist expressed his dependence on God. He is aware that the enemy, Satan, is lurking around trying to lure him to move away from God’s path. He is resolute in listening to the teachings of God for he finds comfort and strength from them. “Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me” (Psalm 27:11). Do not let the enemy convince you that you can take care of yourself and that you do not need God’s direction. Do not forget the reason why Jesus came into this world. God came in the flesh so He could provide you salvation. As Jesus claimed, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). He alone could show you the way. As God allows you to live your life here on earth, let Him lead you through the maze of life. Once you do, you will find clarity and your life will not be tarnished with sorrow because you waited on His leading. As you consistently live your life this way, you will grow in your confidence and strength. No matter what challenges you will be facing, you will discover that God’s goodness will always be there.

Blessings.
