The Spirit within

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:22-25

Once a person surrenders one’s life to Christ there will be a radical transformation. The term “radical” referring to the transformational change that happens to a believer does not mean that they do not think of any other thing because they are just completely sold out to the truth of God. Nothing could be further from the truth because the word “radical” means “root.” It follows then that a radical Christian is a “rooted” Christian. From the text, the apostle Paul described the difference that happens in the life of believers once the Holy Spirit resides in their lives. They then become rooted in the Spirit that this produces what Paul referred to as “the fruit of the Spirit.” These are the characteristics where the life of a believer should be founded upon. “Love” from the text means loving without expecting anything in return. “Joy” is an experience not based on the events or circumstances in life but because of the relationship with God. “Peace” is an inner calmness even if life is filled with trials and difficulties. “Patience” is evident in the ability to endure because of the assured hope focused in God. “Kindness” is the quality that a believer shows to anyone called upon by God to minister with. “Goodness” is produced when life is lived out in the truth of God’s word. “Faithfulness” is staying true to your word and commitment. “Gentleness” is following Christ’s example of humility. “Self-control” is demonstrated when temptations come and will not give in to selfish urges that could lead to sin. Once you let your life led by the Spirit the more you experience life. Continue to hunger and thirst for God’s working in your life and daily ask Him to fill you with His Spirit.

Blessings,
