Called to serve
Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness—in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior, To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. Titus 1:1-4
Faith in God was never intended to be practiced and lived by solely by Christians with their biological family or to isolate themselves from other believers. God intended for His children to live a life of godliness among the body of believers. From the text, the Apostle Paul was encouraging his son in faith, Titus to continue to live according to the truth found in the word of God. Guided by the truth of God’s word, he is now to live and grow in godliness. Paul was confident about himself because he knew the source of his life. He knew the purpose God had set for him and it included being a servant and an apostle of “Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect.” His work of service is to build up and strengthen other believers. Those who came to know Christ has to live their new life in Christ knowing the truth that leads to godly living. This was the charge he was entrusting to Titus and also entrusted to every believer in Christ. The truth you come to receive from His word should transform the way you live. Your growth in your faith in Christ will be manifested in the way you live. It should be expressed in your behavior. This growing does not happen overnight; transformation will take a lifetime. This journey of faith will help you know your purpose. And just like Paul, you will be willing to serve God by helping other believers grow in their faith. He carried the message to Titus and now Titus was taking his turn to serve God by helping others grow in their faith. So this journey of faith continues because there are Christians who are willing to serve by strengthening other believers in their faith. Who shared the gospel’s message to you? Are you growing in your faith because you are taking the time to be involved in the body of believers? If you are, desire to help another believer grow in their faith. Let the journey continue and let your faith strengthen others so they will pursue godliness. God already provided you the resources you need so you could live godly life. “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3). He has blessed you so you could be a blessing to others. He has saved you so you could serve Him by calling others to glorify God.
Blessings,
