The eyes of your heart

The eyes of your heartI keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of isdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1:17-19

Your belief determines your actions. And your view about who God is will determine how you will live your life. From the text, the Apostle Paul is praying for Christians at Ephesus that the eyes of their hearts will be opened by God so they could have a clear understanding of who God is. This prayer was offered because there is always a tendency for Christians to take for granted having an accurate view of God. Just come to think of it how will you react if suddenly your eyesight becomes blurry? You find yourself staggering feeling your way around the house. Panic starts to set in because you are thinking of the results it will do to your life if your eyesight continues to fail. Immediately, you wanted to seek medical help to find out how you will gain clarity in vision. Same is true with your spiritual life, you do not want to take for granted how you view God because this will affect how you view life and the events that are taking place around you. Inaccurate view of God will lead you to believe that God does not care when you are facing trials in life. This view if not corrected could lead to anger and will become detrimental to your life and to others around you. God’s goodness is always constant for that is who God is. “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations” (Psalm 100:5). Your accurate understanding of God will help you know that you have a sure hope that what He had promised will come into fruition. When your belief about God is the same as how the Scriptures reveal Him, then you will realize the incomparable riches you have in Him. So when you are caught up with what seemed to be meaningless routine in life and at the same time you are dealing with what seemed to be unending difficulties, do not let your emotions dictate your actions. Your feelings might lead you to get discourage and to prompt you to give up. Instead pray that God will help you be committed to the truth of His word and His promises. Ask Him to help you be focused on living your life following Him daily. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).

Blessings,
