Loving God more
The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with him! Whenever you seek him, you will find him. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you. For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach them, and without the Law to instruct them. But whenever they were in trouble and turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him out, they found him. 2 Chronicles 15:2-4
it is easy for us to get sidetracked and be divided in our love for God. This is because our hearts are prone to wander. But God seeks those who will love Him wholeheartedly. He promised that if we will seek Him with all of our hearts, we will find Him. “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord” (Jeremiah 29:13-14). From the text, God through the prophet expressed His disappointment to the people of Judah for they have abandoned their love to Him and they have forsaken His word. This was the time when they were ruled by judges and they were doing “whatever seemed right in their own eyes” (Judges 21:25). God wants to have an intimate relationship with us but He will not force us to have fellowship with Him. He is not a god that will come only when you need Him. He is not your personal butler that follows you throughout the day just in case you might need His assistance. It is outrageous if you are treating the Almighty God as if He is your servant who always comes in your command. It is important that our love for God grows compared to our desire to the things of this world. If our love for God is becoming lesser because we love others more, then we are becoming idolatrous. Idolatry loves other gods and it displaces our love for the One true God. Unless we repent from this act of sin against God, this will hinder us from experiencing His working in our lives. “Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore” And not to have God in your side is to your detriment and great loss. Seek God in His terms and do not be content to go throughout your day without knowing if He is with you because you failed to ask for His presence. Daily humble yourselves before God and do not neglect asking Him to work through your life. “And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:6-7). Do not give in to cheap substitutes for they will not be enough and will not satisfy. “O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love” (Psalm 59:17).
