Believing even without seeing
Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name. John 20:29-31
In God’s kingdom, the one who exercises faith will receive more revelation from God. This is what John was writing about from the text. Thomas was known because of his doubts. When he heard that Jesus rose from the dead, despite the testimony of reliable witnesses he still wanted to experience first-hand that Jesus is alive. Then Jesus appearing before him rebuked him of lack of faith and commended those who believe despite the limited amount of revelation. The Lord Jesus Christ commended those that placed their faith in Him because of their willingness to trust God. They are content to what God said in His word and they trust Him that He will fulfill them in due time. This is what Mary experienced when she was chosen to conceive the Son of God. She was completely satisfied to what the angel told her and did not demand for more proof. “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her” (Luke 1:38). Mary was contented to learn of her calling even if she does not know where God would lead her. All that is important to her was that God demands obedience and trust. Faith is having trust in God because we recognize that our abilities are limited. Faith is holding on to God’s promises that what He said in His word He will fulfill. Everyone who believes to what God said and would do what He asks them to do and just let God act are blessed. God never speaks in theory for He knows exactly what will come to pass. He simply asks you to believe Him and act in faith. You will experience great blessing when you place your absolute trust in Him and will do what He asks you to do. God has great things in store for you. The more you learn to trust Him the more you grow in knowing His will for your life.
Blessings.
