Gaining wisdom from His word
My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1-5
One primary reason why there are so many people having difficulty understanding the Scripture is because they try to interpret it to fit their own private opinions. This is contrary to what God wants from His children for it is His purpose to reveal His will through His Word. Once we form a preconceived notion and will not be willing to submit to the wisdom that comes from understanding God’s word, we will become dull of hearing and could lead to the hardening of the heart. “For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes—so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them” (Matthew 13:15). From the text, God is delighted to those who will choose to gain wisdom from His Word. They made it a priority to be committed in learning from God’s Word. They value God’s commands found from His word as treasure that they open themselves to God’s value system and will not shut their ears to His teachings. They are committed to learning from God and let the truth of His Word have control over their lives. This is always the way God extends His blessings. “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season” (Psalm 1:1-3). Pray and ask God to provide you wisdom every time you are about to embark in learning from His Word. “Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding” (Proverbs 2:3). God wants His way to be followed by His children and once we gain wisdom from His word, we will start to want His way to prevail in our lives. God wants to communicate His authoritative Word to those who are willing to listen and obey. Devote diligently in learning from His Word (2 Timothy 2:15), be committed in obeying His commands (James 1:22), and share to others the wisdom you are gaining (2 Timothy 2:24-26). Once we become receptive to God and His Word, we will understand the real fear of God and we will express awe to His wonders.
