God’s gospel tract
The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts. We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:2-4
From the text, Paul was defending his credibility when there were those in Corinth who questions his qualification as a follower of Christ. In his response, he told the detractors that the life of the ones who came to know Christ as Lord and Savior could attest to the fact that he was preaching the gospel of salvation. In effect, what he was saying was that the way a Christian lives his or her life will prove God’s working within. This is what the community where the believers live, work, and play. People around will look at and see if they are consistent to their claim that they are followers of Christ. The way we live our lives convey a message reflecting Christ’s character. The reason this is possible is because of the Spirit of God working within. “This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God.” When we manifest the working of God on how we live our lives, others could be drawn and this could be the gospel tract that others will read. As Paul said, this was made possible “because of our great trust in God through Christ.” Our confidence does not rest on our ability to be righteous but through our dependence upon God who is working within through His Spirit. Let us be aware that we do not live our lives in isolation for others are looking at our witness if we are true to our conviction that Christ is our Lord and Savior. All the good things we do will attest to the working of God’s Spirit. All the bad things will not be glossed over by God but in His mercy and grace, we will find forgiveness and restoration.
