Praying for wisdom
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:2-8
God wants His children to come to Him to pray because He is pleased to provide answer to their prayers. He wants us to come to Him by faith and included in our prayer is to ask Him that He would accomplish His divine plan even when we are dealing with trials and difficulties. Life holds many stressful moments. During those moments we tend to lack clarity on what direction to take. From our text, it is through prayer that we can ask God for wisdom. But how does wisdom work when we are going through trials in life? Wisdom begins when we take our eyes off the circumstances and start focusing instead to God. In this way, God prepares our minds. “Be still, and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:10). Only then we become ready to receive from Him and learn how to align our petitions to His will. This is how we grow and mature in our faith. We become perceptive during times of trials that we learn how to persevere. Life will always be filled with trials. But just like what James said, experiencing joy while going through circumstances could still be a possibility. The wisdom that God provides when we ask Him in the midst of trials is what will help us learn how to be patient and persevere. Wisdom that God provides when we ask Him in prayer is what will help us to conduct right living even when life is difficult. Begin the day asking Him to provide you wisdom that will sustain you as you face new challenges in life.
