God is good all the time
Don’t be deceived, my dearly loved brothers. Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning. By His own choice, He gave us a new birth by the message of truth so that we would be the firstfruits of His creatures. James 1:16-18
God is immutable. This is what James is describing from the passage. “...the Father of heavenly lights, with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning.” One of the areas in life where we struggle is in completely trusting God even when things are not going well in life. The tendency is to think that God is not good because of what we are facing in life. When such thinking lingers in our mind, it becomes detrimental to our spiritual life. When bad things are happening, it is endemic for humans to question the goodness of God. It will be impossible to follow and live for God if we continue to doubt His goodness. The people whom James was writing to was going through difficult times due to persecution. His admonition was to continue to trust God and do not let Satan deceive them into thinking that God is the one who caused all their miseries. God is the source of “Every generous act and every perfect gift.” God’s intention for every believer is to submit to His direction for their lives. He is God and He is perfect in wisdom and knowledge and He knows what is best for your life. He wants to be involved in every aspect of your life. When you go through trials in life, you know God is accomplishing something that will help you to be the person He wants you to be. Imperfect as we are, the tendency at times is to resist living in His will especially when we do not understand where God is leading us. If God is showing you to adjust your life to His direction, do not hesitate to follow so you will not miss out on His best for your life. When peace and the sense of lasting satisfaction become elusive from your spiritual journey, it might be because you are not following His will for your life. Do not let this prevail because no matter how much effort you exert pursuing your own personal desires, you will always lack contentment. It is only by being obedient to His will that will make it possible for you to experience what true contentment in life is all about. Trust Jesus at His word; “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). This day and for all eternity, God will not change for He is infinitely good. All the time, God is good!
