After we meet up with God
On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud on the mountain, and a loud trumpet sound, so that all the people in the camp shuddered. Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke because the Lord came down on it in fire. Its smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain shook violently. As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him in the thunder. Exodus 19:16-19
Every encounter with God is a “mountaintop” experience. But He does not want you to be so caught up in such excitement that you will not want to get down and missed the opportunity to serve Him. He uplifts you so that you will have the strength to face the challenges when you live the life He gave you. From the text, the Israelites were gathered at the foot of Mount Horeb. God spoke to them and gave them His commandments. As described in the passages, it was an awesome experience! It was vital that the people of God have this encounter with the One who rescued them from Egyptian bondage. But God did not want them to settle around the mountain and not travel in the wilderness so they could reach the Promised Land. This is why God spoke to Moses to tell them to proceed. “The Lord our God spoke to us at Mount Sinai and said, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain” (Deuteronomy 1:6). The experience in the mountain was to show God’s majesty and power so that when they go to the wilderness they will be reminded of His presence. He wants them to trust Him that He will be with them in their journey and in their battles. You also have your own mountaintop experience. It comes when you have time alone with God or at a Christian gathering. It is tempting to be in these moments when you could just bask in the beauty of your experience with God. Do not forget that such experiences are God’s means to help you get prepared. Your own mountaintop experience helps you understand that God is with you. He is there to help you be victorious in your daily walk.
