Safe and secure in Christ

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

When people become convinced and persuaded about their belief in God, it leads to spiritual conviction. When people have spiritual conviction, they live according to godly principles. This is what describes the life of Paul. Just like Paul, we need to be persuaded that “nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.” Paul brings the whole line of thought to a climax by challenging all the mysteries of creation. He has already established the fact that human powers cannot ultimately triumph over those loved by God. Paul gives us a list of those that can disrupt real or imaginary and can cause fear. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life [over which we have no ultimate control even with all the discoveries of modern science], neither angels nor demons [which are obviously out of our control], neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow [since time is the context in which we live and not of our own device], not even the powers of hell [those spiritual powers that (see 1 Corinthians 15:24–26) will finally be destroyed in the end-time], neither power in the sky above or in the earth below [he is likely referring here to terms of clairvoyance], nor anything else in all creation, will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38, 39). It is hard to imagine how Paul could have listed any more terms that would have struck such fear into the hearts of people of his day. Each period of history seems to develop its own phobias, as has ours; but we can live in the assurance that the love of God is unbeatable. There is nothing we or anybody else can do to make God stop loving us. In fact, because of that love, we can be assured that all things, even the bad things, are ultimately working together for good. We can be rest assured that once our life is in Christ, we are safe and secure in Him. Thank God!

Blessings,
