The supremacy of God

The supremacy of God

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath: “It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided...I have a plan for the whole earth, a hand of judgment upon all the nations. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has spoken—who can change his plans? When his hand is raised, who can stop him?” Isaiah 14:24-27

We can devise a plan that we think will pan out yet in the end what will matter is the will of God. This is what Isaiah was emphasizing from the text. God has a purpose and His plan will prevail. “It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided.” With this in mind, the challenge is for us to trust God’s plan. God is reminding the Israelites through Isaiah that He is in control of the rise and fall of the nations as He works out His divine purposes in the world. We are in God’s hands. He is here, directly involved in our world today. He has a purpose for this world. His purpose might not coincide with our ideals, but let us not forget that included in His plan is our salvation. As you can see in the logic of these verses, the purpose of God is the very hand of God at work, and as Isaiah said, “When his hand is raised, who can stop him?” Who can turn the hands of God back? We need to believe that. We have God’s word on it: “The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath.” Either God is telling us the truth here, or He is lying. Will you trust God when He tells you that His good purpose will prevail in our world? If you believe He is sincere and trustworthy, will you believe His word and trust Him come what may? His final purpose is not to judge those who have trusted Him. As Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life” (John 5:24).

Blessings,
