How great is our God
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counselor? Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding? Isaiah 40:12-14 NIV
Right now there are idols dominating our world. Prominent among these is secularism. It is based on a general outlook that makes man the measure of all things. This idol reduces God to an object of emotional tolerance, if he has any place at all. The other idol that rivals the eminence of God is alternative spirituality. Naturalism leaves a person so unsatisfied that is why they resort to pagan spirituality which has now become a serious option. There is an open challenge to the glory of the Lord. And this challenge is more magnified when the church of our time becomes a place where God is “weightless.” If God makes little impact on the lives of Christians and our churches are not highlighting the felt presence of God, can we really say that God is being glorified in us? We need to start over again and rediscover God. The change that this will create within us will not just be more than worth it for His glory is all our source of joy. People must see from our lives and sense from our attitudes that God is beautiful with a beauty they have never known. This is why Isaiah continued on describing and showing us more of God. Isaiah shows us God through God’s eyes so we see everything else in God’s perspectives. From the text, he shows us the whole universe through God’s eyes. God is the wise creator: “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?” The creation is so massive to us but with God, He manages it easily. When God created everything, He did not need anything. He did not even need somebody to tell Him what to do, “who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding?” Let us not allow the greatness of our God we worship slip from our thinking thus miss His glory.
