God, the One and Only

This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies: “I am the First and the Last; there is no other God. Who is like me? Let him step forward and prove to you his power. Let him do as I have done since ancient times when I established a people and explained its future. Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? You are my witnesses—is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock—not one!” Isaiah 44:6-8 NLT

From the text, Isaiah emphatically declared that the God of Israel is the only One and true God. This has been declared several times. “...the Lord is God and there is no other” (Deuteronomy 4:35). “So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The Lord is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other” (Deuteronomy 4:39). “I myself am he! There is no other god but me!” (Deuteronomy 32:39). We have to accept with certainty the claims of God and get past our prejudices. We have to believe that He is our self-existent and all-sufficient God. Once we do this, we become enriched in our experience of who God is. God gets the glory and we experience the joy of knowing Him. The Lord Jesus Christ described the ultimate human experience this way: “Well done, good and faithful servant... Come and share your master’s happiness!’”(Matthew 25:21, 23, NIV). The exclusivity of God’s claim that He alone is the One and true God is an offense in our pluralistic beliefs. It has always been a stumbling block for the One and true God demands unfettered loyalty. We would prefer to cover all our stance in fear that we might miss something and missed be saved. This is also the reason why we are uncommitted and mediocre in our worship of God. But the Scripture claims that there is only one Savior and He will not budge to our whimsical desire. In this time of uncertainty, what we need is something that we can hold on to. Our claim that He is our Lord and Savior should be manifested as we provide our witness to this world that He alone is enough and will satisfy. “There is no other Rock—not one!”

Blessings,
