Spiritual consistency

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:23-25 NLT

Christians are invited to regularly draw themselves near to God fully trusting Him so they will grow into spiritual maturity that God wants them to attain. “Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him” (Hebrews 10:22). This calls for spiritual consistency to prevent us from “wavering to the hope we affirm.” Our salvation is secured because of Christ and we have to be focused on Him so we will not waver in anticipating the hope of His return. When the Israelites were in the wilderness after they left Egypt, they started to complaint about the difficult life they’ve been experiencing that they want to return to their old life in Egypt. This happened because they started to lose sight of God’s promise that He will bring them to the Promised Land. Same thing could happen to us when we allow ourselves be overwhelmed by life’s difficulties and forget that we have a God who is faithful. When our hope is fixed on Christ, we will not waver and look back desiring our old life. When a Christian starts to waver in their hope, they tend to neglect fellowshipping with fellow believers. The writer of Hebrews emphasized the importance of having the right motive when meeting together with fellow believers. The motive is not on what we can get out of assembling with other believers but on what we can contribute spurring one another. Our presence in the fellowship provides encouragement to others. Christians meet together for fellowship to promote godliness and love for one another. These are necessary ingredients to attain spiritual maturity. Not neglecting our meeting together is part of our spiritual consistency. As the day of Christ’s return is approaching, persecutions will intensify. Instead of dropping out from meeting together, all the more that we need to come so we could stimulate one another in doing good works of love for one another. If we will be consistent in our spiritual walk with God, we will ride high on every storm that will come our way.

Blessings,
