When God’s word richly dwells in us
Do not take any of the things set apart for destruction, or you yourselves will be completely destroyed, and you will bring trouble on the camp of Israel. Everything made from silver, gold, bronze, or iron is sacred to the Lord and must be brought into his treasury.” When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it. Joshua 6:18-20 NLT
“It was by faith that the people of Israel marched around Jericho for seven days, and the walls came crashing down” (Hebrews 11:30). The Israelites through Joshua heard the word of God and they acted upon to what they have heard. It was all by faith that they attained the success God facilitated for them. It is having the word of God richly dwell within that faith gets strengthened. The word of God is the foundation of faith. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). The Israelites certainly had the word, for God gave the command to Joshua and he relayed it to the people. They did not question the instructions God gave them instead they acted upon God’s instructions and marched obediently around the city. If you believe and trust God and His word, then you can obey. “Without faith it is impossible to please him” (Hebrews 11:6). “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). We must always draw ourselves to God and let His guide our actions. When the government official came to Jesus and begged him to come and heal his son who was at the point of death, ‘Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way” (John 4:50). He soon discovered that his son had been healed at the very moment when Jesus spoke the word. He had a word from the Master! He believed the word and that was sufficient! God’s word us is all-important and should not be disregarded. Upon that word we can place our trust. With that word we can go to the ends of the earth and share God’s message of salvation. With that word we can establish mission opportunities that can change people’s lives. The word of God changes our lives and brings us into His ongoing purposes.
